Day One
6th Grade
Earth Science and Geology
Teachers learn how to apply an inquiry based approach in their teaching and student learning processes! We will investigate selected content material and perform laboratory activities in Geology, Meteorology, and Astronomy using NASA education based materials. Specifically, we will investigate the basic rock classes and weathering and erosion in Geology; Seismology and more. In addition, teachers will work in small groups to investigate several motivating inquiry-based activities and laboratory exercises.
Day Two
7th Grade
Life Science
This workshop delves into the dilemma of how to keep life science hands-on and inquiry based in a climate of content-driven high stakes testing. Discover how to engage students in experiments and projects while still covering the required state and federal core science content standards. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get down and dirty as we dive into compelling experiments and activities that every middle school student, no matter how "cool", will love!
Day Three
8th Grade
Physics
This workshop explores physics concepts using hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning while simultaneously addressing the Georgia Core Curriculum Content Standards. Participants will learn how to create a student-centered physics classroom while maximizing student comprehension of the central concepts covered in College Prep and Honors Physics.

Teachers, learn how to use LEGO Robotics to teach STEM!
We are pleased to announce our professional developement courses for teachers that are interested in learning how to use the LEGO Robotics System to teach STEM concepts in the classroom. The training course will offer a hands on approach in building and programming robots. Teachers will be given classroom ready step-by-step lesson plans that outline concepts that reinforce physics, math, engineering, team work and communications skills. The Lead Instructor for the workshop is James Kelly, accepted in 2006 as a member of the MINDSTORMS Developer Program (MDP) and is currently a MINDSTORMS Community Partner (MCP). He is the author of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT: The Mayan Adventure and LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT-G Programming Guide well as a contributor to the LEGO MINDSTORMS Idea Book. He started The NXT Step blog (www.thenxtstep.com) in January 2006.
